Hey Donna,

Good question.  I will tell how we handle this type of situation, though it may not be cost effective for you if you don't do a large volume of work.

We have a high speed document scanner; its capable of scanning 40+ pager per minute.    Once we have the documents scanned into the computer, we can email them as PDFs or fax them through WinFax.  Either way, once we send it we don't have to babysit the computer.  Your example of 145 pages would have probably taken us about 5 minutes to scan and send to the client.

You can't do much about the time it takes to make the copies, but the processing and delivery can be sped up with more technology.  Just for your information, we use a Canon DR-3060 scanner that was about $2,500 and WinFax is about $100.

We send out about 300 to 400 pages per day, so we had to find a better alternative to the fax machines.  We had two fax machines and it was taking two employees 3 to 4 hours to send everything out.  With the new system, one person can do it in about 1 hour.

Best,
Robert A. Franco
