I've been asking questions, too, Steve.  Like what do these county recorders plan to do when the power goes out?   Or when their servers crash, or their networks go down?  The blackouts we had here in the Northeast a while back got me to thinking.

When I go out in the field, I take my laptop with me, and I have a small inkjet printer set up in my vehicle.  The only thing I need to make my Mobile Field Office complete is wireless internet access. (Thank you, David Bloys.)

There's one more thing that I always carry with me:  a pen and a pad of my old, pre-printed search report forms.  That way, I'm ready for just about anything, for example, if my printer runs out of ink and I don't have a spare, or if for some reason my laptop freezes up (horrors!)
 
That's what I'm most concerned with.  As neat as all this technology is, I'd like to have some assurance that there's a backup plan, "just in case".  You never know when a group of these Islamo-fascists might decide to attack the power grid.

Computers and technology make excellent and efficient servants; I just don't like the idea of being at their mercy.  Just like my daddy, an old country boy from Oak Ridge, Tennessee used to say, "the more they tinker with the plumbin', the easier it is to plug up the drains!"
