I regularly request copies of old deeds because I am doing a current owner search that has an out-of-family requirement and I can't get to that deed myself. Not every request for an old deed is linked to an actual full search which require Easements and CC&R's whereas most C/O searches do not.

You shouldn't always assume that people have bad motives, they may just actually know what they need.
