When Hurricane Fran hit our area, most of our creditors including our mortgage company gave us a two month free period so we did not have to make payments unless we wanted to.  Our daughter was a student at Wake Forest University when another hurricane hit our area in 2000 (I don't remember the name).  Wake applied to FEMA for a one year $1,200.00 scholarship aid for students from the areas affected by the hurricane.  Other colleges did not apply for the aid so our friends couldn't understand why we got it and they did not.   The school had to ask for it.  Had other schools applied for it the aid would not been so high.  I was thankful for it because title searching gets slow after hurricanes.
