Try sending him a copy of a court complaint along with a message that it will be filed within X number of days unless they make arrangements to pay you. It usually is enough to get you paid unless he is going out of business. Try it. You have nothing to lose other than the cost of a fax transmission.

Let me know how you make out.

In so far as other areas are concerned, try notary closings and appraisals. I think you will find they pay better than abstracting.
