In one county I work in, the record room is at the courthouse on the town square; probate moved to a building several blocks away which you still have to drive to, unless you have all day; the tax assessor's moved several miles away up by the interstate. In another county, probate is several miles away and in the deed room, if you need to see instruments that are from the 50's & 60's, you have to go a little room & wait on the clerk to retrieve the film so she can look for it on the microfilm--you can't do it; then you have to be sure you are there before they take lunch. Another county, you have to call for taxes; it often takes a very long time--the phone is always busy. In some counties I cover, lien indices are not computerized and running the lien search takes longer than if you are just doing a current owner search! I could go on & on. Just part of the job, I guess but that is one reason I won't do $25 searches as some have inquired if I would do for them lately!!
