My reply is two fold.  First, to Kevin:

Why do you and others in this industry continue to have such a problem with individuals providing a service similar to yours at a competitive rate?  If it costs an abstractor $25.00 in cash outlay to perform their service and they invoice $35.00, what is wrong with an almost 50% profit margin?

As I have stated so many times on this site, if the fees others charge are that concerning to you, unionize, standardize and ultimately, monopolize.  Outisde of that, make efficient your service, make competitive your pricing and make stringent your budgetary constraints.

I respect the fact that some view fair market and free trade as a direct infringement on their respective businesses, but again, there are ways to combat those scenarios, none of which call for "sour grapes" on a national website.  It consists, in part, of the three concepts set forth above.

As for Lisa:

"I am not one to judge what I do not personally know"??????????  You sure are speaking on behalf of an awful lot of industry professionals.  Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tis the season to be jolly?  Or at the very least, intelligent in our replies?  What could possibly prompt a personal attack based solely on an individual's desire to compete in an extremely flooded market and/or their age?  Is it not possible to create, make successful and maintain a business at any age?  Is it not possible to become proficient at abstracting at an early age?  Does age dictate ones ability to succeed?  Are you kidding me?  Regarding experience in abstracting, I personally know of  professionals who have honed their skills over many years of study and practice.  They are phenomenal abstractors!  However, I also personally know of individuals who have been abstractors for over thirty years that I DO NOT allow to obtain a simple deed copy for our office due to their incompetence.  On the flip side, I have worked with at least five individual abstractors who after only a couple of years of OJT, created and currently maintain very successful abstract/title companies.

Visit www.cameronjohnson.com and learn just how possible it is to become a successful business person at a young age.  Lisa, if you have a personal "beef" with Jason, either share it with all of us so that we can at least take into consideration the "mud-slinging" or utilize personal email discussions and keep us out of it!  If you do not have a personal problem with him, as you say you don't, then try to select another reason to dislike his business practices other than his age and pricing.  Very BUSH league!
