O'Connor's reference to the "pure independent" was a nice, adequate description.
However, I disagree that only the pure independent will be the survivor in the end because as a pure independent I am dirt poor doing title work for $50.00 a search as opposed to when I did title work in SC for $75.00 to $100.00 a search. If I have to come down to $25.00 then I will stop searching.
When I see an abstracting company in town with three abstractors searching five counties and two office employees all on payroll with company cars for the abstractors(not new ones for them but yes a new one for her) and she rents office space, then I have to question why didn't I "get it" like she did years back and like O'Connor said that he did. They get the Volume and they get the money. Back then I didn't "get it" so now I don't get it. So I don't see the pure independent surviving all this change, I just see the abstracting companies having to downsize and become the pure independent after all of us pure independents have been priced out of service.
