   This will only put it into a picture format, you can't text search with it unless you have an OCR program which are about a $150 for a descent one. The OCR program converts PDFs into text format, but rarely work 100%.
    With Scan Snap you get a program for file storage. Also you get a full business version of Adobe 7.0. 
     For a data base for all your work, you can either use Microsoft Excel or there are many free applications you can try online. 
      Also, I don't want to burst your bubble about your new purchase of your multi-function printer, but we started out that way and it only lasted about 4-5 months. As a scanner and fax machine, it just can't handle the workload. It is more so meant for home use, not business. It is better to purchase each item separately. We now have a Cannon G3 fax, the Scan Snap scanner, and we use the multi-function only for printing. We will be replacing it even for printing purposes soon, it uses color ink even for printing black docs which gets expensive.
