Well, then...that's what I thought. Now, on to my reason for asking, which I'm sure you've been waiting for all day long (you're gonna love this)...
I received an e-mail from a company the other day that went something like this:
"Hi my name is [REDACTED] from [REDACTED] and I was just wondering if you were interested in picking up some extra work for our company in the Counties you abstract in, if so can you please email me or give me a call back. Also our prices are listed below: "
The prices listed were the ones I posted when I started this thread. I sent the following reply:
"Dear [REDACTED]:
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate your interest in our services, however, we are unable to accept your offer due to the fact that the prices you are willing to pay are well below what we charge.
If you are able to find an abstractor who will do a Current Owner Search for $25.00, or a Commercial Search for $75.00 to $100.00 in the thirteen southwestern Pennsylvania counties which comprise our market, I suggest that you purchase the best Errors & Omissions policy that money can buy. You will most certainly need it.
Cordially yours,
Scott Perry..."
It gets better. The next day, I got this reply:
"Actually, we have a lot of people who do them for that price, and they don't have a problem with it."
To which I fired off another missive:
"That's fine, but we can't meet those prices and still maintain the high standard of quality for our search products that our clients demand.
Thanks for your inquiry. Good luck to you.
Regards,
Scott L. Perry..."
I'm halfway tempted to name the company, as they are listed on SOT (and are a NALTEA member), but I think in this case, discretion is the better part of valor. Nonetheless, I challenge any principal or officer of the company in question who may be reading this (and you know who you are) to be man (or woman) enough to either produce proof that you have found a single searcher who is doing your work at the ridiculous prices you offer, or in the alternative, apologize for misrepresenting yourself.
We are all waiting for your response (but, I won't hold my breath).
Regards,
Scott L. Perry, President
