We would charge $16.50 - $10 to look up the volume and page, $5 for the certified copy (of a 2 page deed), and $1.50 for the envelope and postage. We charge for our searching skills and there isn't much skill involved in getting a certified deed copy. Not much liability either. We only charge the $10 to cover our time.
I think our "search" fees are under valued, but simple requests like this shouldn't be so expensive; $60 seems out of line to me.
Now before everyone starts going off about travel time and gas prices - we are already at the courthouse for our search work. I don't want to be in the certified copy business; we are title searchers. Getting a certified copy while we are there is more of an accommodation that we charge a nominal fee for.
Just my opinion,
