J.T., I hear what you're saying and agree with a lot of what you've said, yet there's a big difference between a simple document retrieval and doing an actual "search", be it a Current Owner or a 40- or 60 Year Title History.
My objection to the sixty dollar figure is based not on emotion, but on an intimate knowledge of my trade and my market. It's the difference between knowledge and experience. Even with my overhead, my price structure is such that I can do the same job (in most cases) for under thirty bucks and still come out ahead!
Oh, and don't feel as though you have to qualify your remarks with statements like, "I'm not directing this at you alone". To me, it's strictly business and I don't take these things personally. Besides, it makes you seem as though you're apologizing and puts you at a disadvantage when you're arguing your point.
