Dear Christine:

You did the right thing in refusing to sign off on this one.  NO job is worth the potential repercussions of the scenario you just described.  Not only could you lose your notary commission, you could be held civilly or criminally liable for any fraud arising from this transaction.

In all probability, it's just a clerical snafu, but why take the chance?  Sometimes, you just have to "go with your gut".  If it doesn't feel right, you're better off walking away.
