I don't think it is a law yet, but this is one of several that have been proposed from both the democrats and republicans.

On the issue of bulk transfer and remote access outside the jurisdiction via the Internet, we are making headway in this direction as well. Last week our state representative received an offer to co-sponser the bill. There is also a move afoot to pass similar laws at the federal level. Two powerful members of the U.S. House have expressed interest in putting forward a federal version. It's too soon to tell, but it is apparent to me there is a great deal of interest in keeping our records at home. It just makes sense.
