That is good news. I had not heard of this. What I think we need now is some enforcement of this law.
It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out with the interest of the federal government in creating a free trade zone in the Pacific Rim and Latin America. I think the motivation may be to counter the growing economic power and potential for competition with the European Union in years to come..
However, I remember the disappearance of manufacturing jobs to latin America after NAFTA was enacted, and wonder if the problem will be exacerbated with the expansion to the Orient, Central and South America.
At the time NAFTA was enacted many thought it was just the low paying jobs that would disappear south of the border, and that service jobs (such as abstracting) would remain hear. However, we have already seen how the outsourcing issue has impacted on the abstracting occupation. It remains to be seen how the creation of a Pacific free trade zone is going to effect this, and how it will square with legislation to protect privacy issues.
