Labeling clients as "stinkers" on this board is not going to resolve the problem. There are thousands of the abstractors out there who out of ignorance will accept future orders, not to mention the low ba;ll abstractors that will accept any work without question as to price. What do the non-paying clients understand? ...dollars and cents. Nothing works like a good law suit to get their attention.
Where do you sue? That depends on your state's long arm statute. If you want to avoid the issue entirely, you can sue a defendant in their native state. If you feel strong enough to withstand a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction, you can sue in your state. If you are wrong, you can re-file the suit in the Defendant's state. You are probably in small claims territory. So, what is the "Big Loss" other than a filing fee. If you want to play in the big leagues, you have to be prepared to enforce your claim. Non-paying clients are not going to have any respect for you until you do.
