Dear Lynn - depending on what county I am in - if there are just a few records under this name and I notice a Alice Monroe - I would probably definitely glance at it.  If any of the variables matched up such as address of defendant with my person, yes definitely I would.  If nothing matched up - I may list it somewhere as a notation in the report but they would have to order it.  I am not going to look at every name variation in the As in Dallas county nor the Ds - would take me a week.  However, also use your brain - if you are doing the rest of the search and you notice a name variation that is used in the documents filed with this search, then by all means I believe that name should also be searched.  Example if my search name was John Parks and in the documents I found he used the name J. Mark Parks or just Mark Parks, I would definitely search those variations for judgment purposes.  I think when somewhere in the search you become aware of different name variations you are liable for those names for other parts of the search requirements - JMO!

I think what most abstractors do to miss judgments the most is - they go directly to a Dorothy A. and look at the judgments but forget to go back up to the Dorothy only and look through those judgments, and vice-versa.  I think that was the same case scenerio in the 2 judgments I found that were missed by title companies that closed a loan - attorneys whose judgments were missed hired me to find the sale after the judgment was filed.
