By abolishing an antiquated system of taxation that punishes achievement and unjustly enriches politicians, we would all have more money in our pockets, which would in turn encourage spending, thereby spurring economic growth.  It's that simple.

Not quite sure about your reasoning behind the "instant depression" comment.  I must've missed something there.
