I like the idea of tax credits much more than import tariffs. Who doesn't like a tax break? However, it would probably have to be pretty significant to make up for the savings of the cheaper labor.
How 'bout good ole Corporate Responsibility? I think I had a class on the subject once. Sure, it is good to perform well for stockholders - but at what price? If every company outsources its labor intensive tasks, who will buy the products we import? Surely killing our economy would be far worse for the stockholders than keeping their jobs here in the United States.
I'm all for free trade and capitalism. But, it fails when it is not approached in a responsible manner. No doubt, we have a terrible shortage of responsible, ethical CEOs in this country.
