I could not agree more! I am a real "gadget-guy" and I love technology. But, there are some things it CAN'T do better. I too miss the old index books. I definitely see where the computer has its advantages, but sacrificing accuracy wasn't worth it.
A big part of the problem, at least in our little corner of the world, is that the staff of our Recorder's offices is mostly computer illiterate. They don't understand how to use the technology. If they spelled a name wrong in the books, we were still usually able to find it - not so in the computer index.
