It is great when you can save some money on E&O insurance.... Lord knows it ain't cheap. However, I would consider the agent's knowledge about the product. I, personally, feel more secure with an experienced agent handling my coverage. E&O is a very specialized product and there are many considerations that must be taken into account. If you have to tell your agent that they offer the coverage, and where to look for it within their company, I would be worried that they don't have the proper knowledge of the product.
I had my local insurance agent obtain my first E&O policy and she had no idea the effect of a lapse in coverage. When we got a ridiculous quote back for renewal she began shopping around for other coverage and couldn't find anything. She did not warn me about the effect of having a lapse in coverage and the policy expired before I found coverage elsewhere. From that moment on, nothing I did prior to that date was covered! (That was a lesson learned the hard way!)
And, heaven forbid any of us ever have a claim, but should it happen you will want a knowledgeable agent to help you with the process. One mistake on your part and you may get a letter denying the claim. (That is lesson I don't want to learn the hard way.)
Just a thought to consider,
Robert A. Franco
