I am going to vent here.  I have finally acknowledged the fact that my job as an abstractor has been taken over by the internet, India people and $25 search companies.  Here in the Atlanta area, one company from Florida has proclaimed to do free searches for 6 months and then will charge $25 thereafter.  I cannot and will not compete w/that.  I am not stupid and see that out-of-state companies, VM's (old & new--the old ones are not faithful as I was) send me a bunch of orders and then the orders dwindle.  I believe they are using me, my work and then compare it to the online records.  What they may not care about it, is sure---maybe most online info is okay--but not always; that is an absolute.  And you cannot verify a legal online in most cases.  Well, getting sick of it.   I truly value my work, the end product I provide.  But it seems that doesn't matter anymore.  On top of my dilemma, my husband has a job at Delta Airlines--18 yrs.--used to be a good job and now it sucks just like mine.  Anyway, my husband was solicited by "Maaco", car painting franchise--we are probably too poor for them though and I was very adverse to the idea at first.  Now it's sounding better.  I am thinking to just take the risk, which is huge.  If Maaco doesn't work, will have to find something else.  I am not going to prostitute myself as an abstractor.  I can't compete with the cheapo people and refuse to lower my fees.  Good luck, Ricky, with your woodworking company.  I wish you well.
