Right now there is much ptrofit to be made in outsourcing data processing related jobs to India. There are many areas of our economy active in it. ..not just the abstracting community. The outsourcing American company saves money by not employing Americans that require higher wages and expensive benefits packages. The Indian recipient of the work makes money because it can undercut the American wage/benefit issue, and can still make money because the cost of living in India is so much lower.
India is indeed a "computer savvy" country. Haven't you noticed that the Indian students in our Universities usually gravitate toward engineering and science curriculums. If there is money to be made in the future by drafting computer programs for medicine, agricultue and architecture, you can bet that they will be moving into those areas as well. Why haven't they done so already? Their attention has not focused on these areas yet, but that is not to say they will not at some point in the future.
The problem is not so much in India as it is in our own country. We need to find some method of making outsourcing inefficient. Once the profit incentive is removed the problem is removed.
