George....
Welcome to SOT! I envisioned offering a like-wise service along those lines a few years ago and talked myself out of it. The title companies that I have worked for over the years are usually not to keen to issue policy - and in fact, in many instances, would downright avoid it if at all possible. Simply because policy issued = payment made. In other words, the Underwriter got their money along with policy numbers that were issued. I don't know if it is the same today but with several family members employed at various companies in my local area - I would say so. Of course, we are talking St Louis - which is totally out of the norm when it comes to title companies.
But I do think if you approach Underwriters...now thats another ballgame. They may have some pull with agents (thru contracts they have with them) that would enable them to go into an agents office and assist with policy issuance. If I were you - I would check into that end for your sales pitch. The Underwriters are the ones who stand to make money....although in the long run, the customer/lender is the one whose interest is best served by obtaining a policy.
Good luck to you....I am sure there are more knowledgeable folks out here in SOT-land who can offer more help!
