In that case, you're left with one of two options: 1) take them to court to enforce payment of the disputed amount, or 2) cut your losses and tell them to find another abstractor.

The way I see it, you're in business to make money, not friends.  They don't sound like the kind of client who's worth the aggravation.

Just my take on it.
