I also want to send my sympathies to your son and to the families of his friends who were killed.  My 18 year old daughter went through much the same thing last year, with three killed in car accidents and one dying of lupus.  And my 28 year old nephew, who worked at the World Trade Center, went to 29 funerals after 9/11.  It's a rough time to be a young person, especially since we're all raised that if you behave well you'll be rewarded, and so when young people die we don't understand why it should happen to them.  I might recommend you and your son both read "When Bad Things Happen to Good People".
