Perhaps if more people leave the business (who really don't belong here anyway), there will be more work for those who stick around. Perhaps that is far fetched thinking, but I do love this job and the challenges it presents. Not many jobs these days offer the flexibility to make your own hours, which is a big thing in my book. Not many jobs these days let you use your brain to its full capacity. I love abstracting and I'm not interested in leaving anytime soon. I just feel that a lot of people thought this was an easy buck and have messed it up for us "lifers." I don't see leaving something you love just because it is not easy at the moment. I have made it this long and throwing my hands up and saying I'm out is not the answer. Sure if I'm not making as much money I would consider a second job, but I wouldn't quit as long as I keep getting orders and getting paid. It is just frustrating at times to think about how it has drastically changed over the last few months. Investing in a mobile fax seems nice and all, but I really don't want to spend the money when I have enough bills to pay. Plus you still have to carry around the equipment which just seems like you are asking for trouble if you are in certain counties. I know turnaround is soooooo important these days, but I would think that actual quality work from an insured abstractor would mean something too. Maybe not, but with some of the things I have seen lately if you don't know what you are doing you really need to get out.
