Sounds like a rather insulting memo that you received. Hopefully the other abstractors will take the same approach that you have. It sounds more like a threat to withhold business rather than an appeal to work with them during a temporary slow period.
If the client's business is slow, that is their problem. When was the last time you heard of an abstractor increasing the prices charged to a client because his business was slow. He would be cancelled in about two minutes.Some aggresive marketing techniques on the client's part to replace their lost business would be more adviseable than trying to pass their loss to the abstractors. Think about it. They are asking the abstractor to accept their loss so that they can maintain their profit margin. Once the abstractor reduces his prices he will never succeed in increasing them at a later date.
