I understand how you feel... We have reduced our abstracting staff from 5 to 3 over the past year or so.  I don't see it growing again.  I am just planning to be more selective about the clients we work with and concentrate of providing them with excellent service... as always.

I don't do work for any of the national companies anymore, mostly because they have asked me to lower my fees - I don't do that.  I don't give "volume discounts" and my clients don't dictate my fees or turn-around times.  I would rather work with clients that trust us to do a good job and get it back as soon as we can without sacrificing quality. 

The business sure is changing...
