It depends on what they mean by "lien". Do they mean a lien against the property (mortgage, deed of trust, mechanic's lien) or a lien against the person (judgment, state or federal tax lien).
I have found when the term "judgment and lien search" is used the common meaning is liens against the person not the property. I search the name provided, searching for middle initial and no middle initial for Abstract of judgments (filed in the property records - litigation/court searches are extra), state or federal tax liens for $25.00 to $45.00 depending on the county.
If they want "liens" against the property then its a current owner search!
If you're not sure exactly what the client wants always ask for clarification before giving a quote. The trick comes in figuring out what they actually want even when they don't understand what they are asking for!
