To say that "Americans are lazy" may be too broad of a generalization.  However, there is no doubt that our generation, and those younger than us, do not have the same work ethic as our fathers and grandfathers.  Most of us on this forum are self-employed and are probably NOT lazy.  As an employer, though, I have had more lazy employees than I care to count.  I have an excellent staff now, but there have been many that have come and gone that did not exemplify a strong work ethic.

As Scott pointed out, there is a huge sense of entitlement today that didn't exist to the same extent a decade or two ago.  The problem does seem to be getting worse.  Maybe it is not accurate to portrait Americans as lazy, however, compared to other cultures we seem to be slipping.
