Interesting.  Thinking back, it seems that I remember our instructor, who was a practicing lawyer, conducting his courses in this manner, although he never explained to us that he was using the Socratic method. 

Since I learn better in an interactive environment, I found it to be more effective than having someone "throw" information at me in the form of a lecture.  Thanks for the explanation, F. Lee.
