There are all kinds of creative ways the bad guys can get your personal info.  In the trailer for the movie "Firewall" with Harrison Ford, there's a tag line in which someone tells Ford's character that it was most likely a "dumpster diver" who stole his identity.

Funny you should mention this, Jason, I just got a letter from my bank today stating that "...a number of accounts may have been involved in a security breach".  It goes on to state that although the breach did not occur at my bank, they are issuing me a new ATM card as a precaution.

Fortunately, my bank has a Zero Liability policy, which means I pay nothing in the event of unauthorized charges to my card.  I would highly recommend that everyone reading this consult your bank's policy regarding fraudulent charges.  Some of you may want to shop around for a bank which offers similar protection.
