Yes, that is kind of what I thought. I can understand it if they aren't charging the customer a $250 settlement/closing fee. But, in this case, they did charge the fee. I thought that was a bit much to charge for services that really weren't provided. They did prepare the settlement statement and get the package ready, but I didn't think that alone was worth $250.
Can you imagine what's next? A "do-it-yourself" title search? Instructions on how to go to your courthouse and obtain copies of your deed and mortgages and an overnight envelope to return them? You would probably still pay the $250 exam fee.
