No, I don't agree. At what point do you stop agreeing to that 3% decrease in your fees? If you are asked to reduce you fees by only 3% every six months at what point do you realize that it isn't just 3%? I don't work for this company - and never would. I don't let any of my clients dictate my fees. Many of them have tried - they ask us to do the work for less than we charged 10 years ago. If you can't make a profit, it is better to drop them and find a client that is willing to pay your fees. Why waste your time if it isn't profitable?
Sorry - maybe the employees don't have any control over it, but someone at the company does. If they make the decision to threaten their abstractors with being put on the bottom of the list if they don't succumb to their price demands, they deserve what they get.
If companies like this can't find any abstractors to do their work, they will go out of business and the ones who treat us like professionals, and pay our fees, will get more work. It works out better for all of us. Why lower your fees and help a company take business away from your good clients who recognize your professionalism and pay you what your services are worth?
Best,
Robert A. Franco
