My wife and I went to see the movie "Firewall" with Harrison Ford this past weekend. Ford plays Jack Stanfield, a bank security expert whose family is kidnapped by a gang of thugs whose plan is to force him to use his expertise to transfer $100M to their offshore account in the Cayman Islands. The first hint of trouble comes when someone steals Jack's identity and uses it to run up $95,000.00 in gambling debts.
All through the movie, the bad guys seem to know every detail of Jack's life, from his wife's occupation to his son's peanut allergy. As we were discussing the movie over dinner afterwards, my wife asked me, "Is it really that easy to find all that information out?" I told her that it's sometimes easier, and her reaction pretty much said it all.
"Wow...that's really scary!!"
