That is awful - but how about this?? I got a current owner today (super rush - haha) that the persons in title had owned since - GASP - 1947 (NO joke!). That is NOT a current owner search in my book, it is a full search. I have a ton of deed, mortgage, and lease books to run, not to mention the computer and getting taxes. I immediately called the company to inform them before running the search since I would hate to run it and not get paid the full fee. I know one abstractor (in one of my counties) who once told me she felt "bad" charging a client more when they ordered one type of search and it turned out to be more work. Therefore she just didn't want to rock the boat and just charged what they ordered. I told her she was waaaaaay crazy, and she told me I wasn't very nice to my customers. Last I checked, I was in this business to make money, not be "nice" and bite the bullet.
