I would love to raise my fees, but due to cutthroat tactics by these new independents in my area, it is not happening. I have managed to raise fees for certain things, such as updates or copy retrievals. Some counties don't charge as much as others for certain copies, so we are able to make a little money off copies (not much, but every little bit helps). Some clients have demanded I lower my fees in my one outer county, which I have refused to do. I used to go to this certain county three to four times a week, now I am lucky to be there once, maybe possibly twice a week. They just don't understand the drive time, cost of gas, and the time alone it takes out of my day to go there. I guess they found other people to do their orders since now I go down there and can easily find other independents who tell me they spend half to a full day down there.

As for bulk or discount orders, that doesn't happen. I will say I have ONE client which I have given a small price break, but they do send a large quantity of work and pay quickly (which I love them to death, I hope they know that). I simply can't do that for a company who sends an order here or there, which most of my other clients do. I can't give price breaks for people who I have to call and bug to get paid (there are a couple of those, but they are honest and when they say the check in in the mail, it IS in the mail). As for the really slow, or wanna-be no pays, they get kicked to the curb as soon as they become a problem. That's my two cents worth.to post a reply: login - or - register
