It's all very good in theory. However, like someone already mentioned, getting new members involved is another thing entirely. Those that we have asked to join NALTEA, always ask what can it do for us, for my company, etc? I give them all the information that I am aware of and how NALTEA has helped us. Nothing excited them enough to join, yet. However we hold out hope.
Personally, I feel that we as a group must focus on getting ourselves noticed within the industry first. I mean seriously noticed. Build a reputation, have quality people in lead roles (as we already do) and promote, advertise, and build our numbers. This organization is an outstanding way to get recognition and to help abstractors. We need to focus on doing that first, instead of spreading ourselves too thin, when we are still young and growing. Please don't get me wrong, the ideas presented here are excellent. Eventually, anything is possible. We are willing to do what it takes to help promote NALTEA.
I still believe a state chapter of NALTEA is the way to go. In order to grow our numbers and get our voices heard within the industry itself and within our own states. That is essential to growth, at the most basic level. How hard that would be, I'm not sure. But it is possible.
