I understand Michaela's dilema concerning working very rural counties. One of my counties only has 602 lonely cowbows living there. The county can't even support a gas station.
It is because of the rural nature of the counties I serve that I made the investment in a mobile office. Not so much as a benefit for my clients (although they certainly have). But as a benefit to my own bottom line, nothing has ever compared. Before I built the mobile offices, I can't tell you the number of times I would return from a 280 mile trip only to find a fax sending me back to the same county the next day.
The savings in gas and time paid for the technology in very short order. It allows me to spend more time abstracting and less time driving. You don't have to fax from the mobile office for your clients to benefit from the ability to receive the orders while in the field. Even if you wait until you return to your office to fax your results, it still saves hours. Outfitting yourself with the ability to receive faxes while you are driving between counties isn't particularly expensive, especially if you already have a notebook computer.
I'm not saying a mobile office will fit everyones needs but I've always been glad I made the investment.
