I'm one of the most patriotic people I know. I love this country and I love that it is a melting pot of all different nationalities and cultures. If we didn't have such a large hispanic culture here, I probably couldn't find some of my favorite foods in Wisconsin. BUT, we respect and cherish the things we work for, not the things we are given or steal.
I have a friend whose dad came to the states from El Salvador 20 years ago and worked here for years to be able to bring his family here legally. They live in a hispanic neighborhood, where there are many illegal immigrants, and it drives my friend's mom insane! She said that in Mexico (or El Salvador, wherever) it's ok to fix your car in the middle of the street, and play your music so loud in the house that your friends can dance in the street, and that it's ok to just wander around aimlessly with 10 friends, but she says, "We're in America now. This isn't how it should be in America. If they wanted to do that, they should have stayed in Mexico." This family isn't even close to being fully assimilated to America, they still honor their culture and heritage, but they love America and respect the opportunity they've been given by being here.
My dad has a good idea for getting Mexico to secure their own borders - for each immigrant we allow in the US, Mexico has to give us one square mile of their land.
