Dear Kevin and other SOT members,
Please refer to the article I posted online this afternoon entitled "County Considers Offering Title Insurance to its Residents." Mr. Youngblood and I spoke earlier this week, but he had not provided any comments about this idea when we spoke. I am hoping he and I will have a more in-depth conversation in the future.
I did speak with Ginny McLaren, however, and she said that it was her belief that Mr. Youngblood was being targeted by the title insurers in an effort for them to get faster, cheaper access to information contained in the public record. You may recall that Ms. McLaren and several other county recorders were named in a lawsuit by four title companies and a U.S. District court sided in favor of the county recorders. To read more about that, please go to "Michigan Registers of Deeds Win Court Battle Over Copies."
It's definitely an interesting issue no matter how you approach it.
Best regards,
Jarrod
