I think a part of it may be geography also... I think the farther west you go the better the indexing systems you will see. The states that were settled later had the benefit of seeing what worked well and what didn't. I have noticed that geographically organized title plants are much more prevalent in the western states.
Thus, there may not as big a difference in time spent between a current owner and a full search in some areas. Its just a theory. I know from what I have heard, it sounds more difficult to do a full search in some of the east coast states than it is in Ohio.
