Things must be very different in New York and New Jersey. I don't think I have EVER done a current owner in 15 minutes. I suppose it would be theoretically possible if you have a very UN-common name and they recently acquired the property, having only a deed and mortgage. However, by the time you check everything else (clerk of courts, probate, auditor's records, legal description, etc.) it would be amazing.
And of course, its only averaging $75 an hour if you give them 24 searches a day. Otherwise, its only $75 a day - assuming you give them 3 that first hour. It isn't how much you make per hour while you are working, its how much you average when you take into account the time that you aren't.
Also, you have to assume that there is no prep-work, or any time spent faxing the orders back. You have to take into account any other work that must be done to be able do the work, like taking care of your taxes, health care, maintaining office supplies and equipment, etc... That all has to be considered when you are talking about how much you average.
We charge MUCH more than that and our examiners average $50 an hour and they are busy all day - every day. Plus, we have a staffed office that takes care of phone calls, faxing, ordering office supplies, and administering all the paperwork for the employees. The $50 an hour doesn't take into account the office staff.
But hey, if you get any of those $4,000 cell tower searches in Ohio, let me know. We would be happy to help with those.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
