Texas is not one, either. I had an abstractor-friend suggest the very same thing. I inquired with an attorney-friend. I supplied this attorney with a copy of a document called an "Affidavit of Lien" often with the disclaimer: "This is not a lien, but an affidavit claiming lien". It is commonly used by carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc -- usually what happens is the subcontracted labor (allegedly) gets stiffed on payment from the general contractor when a home is built or remodeled, and thus is allowed by law to place a claim of lien against the homeowner and property.
The attorney read the statute which allows this instrument to be filed, and in his estimation, abstractors do not fall into the fields of profession allowed to file and claim such liens.
