Judy, was that letter attached to a subpoena? That would have been a nice touch. Sorry to hear so many of you out there are getting screwed. We have our second title company here in Cleveland going down and leaving a wake of crap for a ton of independants. If it's not escrow officers with their hands in the cookie jar, it's the damn owners feeling it's ok to close up shop and stiff a couple months of invoices. I think they rationalize it by thinking it's just business and nothing personal. Perhaphs we should all use our god given talents and show them what can happen when they make "business" decisions like these.
Small Claims - Summary judgment.
Credit Reporting - Seven years reporting.
Don't make it any easier for them. That judgment can kill thier credit score, and it doesn't come off once it hits the bureau unless the plaintiff writes the bureau.
Most people don't realize that a judgment stays on the credit bureau as a negative even if the person is vindicated through the system. Trying to do loans for small business people was very difficult if they had been in business for any serious length of time. Even though the courts found in their favor, the judgment stayed on their credit report. We should start using the system we rely on for our livelihood against the people that are exploiting us.
