Fort Bend County Clerk Dianne Wilson is probably one of the worst in the country, in my opinion. To make matters worse, she travels around the country encouraging other clerks and recorders to follow her reckless lead. I was asked to investigate her by several of the decent, hard working public servants in Texas. Smart Money listed her website at the top of their "Meet the Stalkers List".
As to what she has published about herself, very little. For example, the counties index indicates she has a misdemeanor arrest for some type of traffic violation. All the other "tickets" of this type are openly available on her website. They expose dates of birth, drivers license numbers, home addresses, and other sensitive information. The image of her ticket is not available and investigative reporters in the area were told that it was available only on microfilm. One of her business partners (identified as such by an assumed name certificate) has an assault record. Again, the image of the documents are only available on microfilm.
If she intended to selectively expunge her own records and those of her friends, she must have forgotten about the medical, financal, social security numbers, and credit card numbers she exposed about her living in-laws in the probate records. All of this was available on her website until public pressure forced and an independent audit for HIPAA violations forced her to take down the probate records violations a few months ago. Despite several FOIA requests for the HIPAA audit, she refused to release this public record at all.
It has always seemed ironic to me that this county clerk who insists that everyone call her Dr. Dianne Wilson, has enhanced her own identity with the title. She bought her PhD online from a company the U.S. Accounting office named as a bogus diploma mill. See When Elected Officials Aren't What They Seem .
I don't want anyone to think that the Fort Bend County Clerk is in any way representative of the rest of the county clerks in Texas. In spite of her bullying tactics, most of the clerks in Texas have not caved to the pressure to publish the records of their constituents online. Some who originally followed the Wilson model have decided the convenience of those outside their jurisdiction was not worth the security of their constituents. Travis County, which is our states capital, recently took down all documents previously published on the County website. See: Travis County Pulls County Images Offiline.
