The $2 fee is more or less a broker fee. ValuAmerica, as I understand it, works for lenders..matching them up with abstractors in the areas requested. I'm sure there are many lenders who don't have the time to find an abstractor in each county of each state. Seems like a pretty smart idea to become a broker in this field and find abstractors that don't mind taking on new business. They intice you to pay the fee promising that they can send you alot of new work. I took the bait and it has worked for me. But, I have never visited ValuAmerica's website and they've not asked me to key anything into it regarding my search.
There are brokers of many kinds in the business world. If you are a busy person, as I am, it sometimes becomes necessary to use their services. If the bottom line is profit for me, and it saves me time, I'm game. Several years ago when I might have had time to just sit here and solicite for work, call lenders and fax tons of abstractor applications, this offer might not have sounded as good. But, as it is, I don't mind paying someone to find me mass quantities of work. Sometimes it takes money to make money.
I'd like to hear from some of the people that are having to do more work for ValuAmerica for less money and see what they are being asked to do. I haven't been asked to do anything but pay the "broker" fee.
