Judy, like we learn when we're young, it never hurts to ask, and if you don't ask, the answer is always "no."
Did the company have some nerve? Was it insulting?
Of course it was, on both accounts, but that is the way some weasels do business. They aren't the first nor will they be the last to approach you or anyone here in that manner.
I think you did what most would do, politely inform them you would like to serve their interests at YOUR PRICING. If they desire it bad enough and are sick and tired of trying to get quality at junkyard prices, they will agree. If not, they will go try someone else.
To me, they offer such ludicrous business because someone out there will take it.
Don't let them get you all worked up. Shake your head, realizing they are not going to be around long, work with good companies, and then retire poolside at the end of the day.
