I would say, let him snoop.  Keep your business honest and work with integrity.  Your reputation will soon get around and business will boom.  Take it from someone that has been there in that situation.  Oh by the way, my raise was $.01 per month, and I was the office manager and had to train the new abstractors.  Now, I have 2 contracts with my old employer and they pay more now than they did when I worked for them.
